It’s almost that time of the year again when we think about getting something romantic for the special person in our lives for Valentine’s Day. Most personalised presents take at least a few days to actually be made so these ideas might not be much help to those of you whose Valentine’s Day contribution involves picking something up from the petrol station on the way to see your loved one. But for those of you looking for a personalised gift for someone special, here are some suggestions and tips as to what’s available.

loveheart

Chocolate is the obvious choice and it’s hard to go wrong, really, because who doesn’t like a nice chocolately surprise? This beautiful Belgian chocolate love heart can be customised with a message up to 36 characters in length. The handwriting is lovely and swirly and the chocolate is delicious. All you have to do is think of a message to gon it. The Belgian chocolate love heart costs £14.99.

Champagne is about as synonymous with Valentine’s as you could hope to get, so if you want to play safe and stick a reliably romantic reward, how about a bottle of personalised champagne.

Champagne and chocolates are all very nice of course but are unlikely to last long beyond the night it self. For something more durable, how about some personalised underwear? Our friends at Spreadshirt offer a range of personalised clothing including boxer briefs for him and a string thing or hip hugging undies for her. Find out more about personalised underwear.

Hopefully these ideas will give you some inspiration and what better message to add to a personalised gift for Valentines’s day than a marriage proposal. Check out our ideas for 5 great places to pop the question!

Proposing with an ad in a newspaper is pretty old hat. If you want to make an impression, get the big guns out and propose with style. Here are five places you could propose to make your engagement unforgettable.

1. On top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Yes, we said on top. The top of the Harbour Bridge is open all year around and offers breathtaking views of Sydney from 134 metres above the water. Choose from three different climbs: Express, Discovery and Bridge.

With the shortest climb lasting two hours, this is one for folks who are fairly sure their companion will say yes. Otherwise it could be a long hike back to terra firma.

Cost: From AU$188 per person

2. In a revolving restaurant

Nothing evokes retro-futuristic 1960s glamour more than this iconic DDR structure and a smooth Martini. The Fernsehturm in Berlin is a 360 metre tall tower with a revolving restaurant 200 metres above the ground. See West and East from a unique vantage point as you set the mood for your proposal.

Berlin’s iconic tower is an ideal spot to pop the question as the sun goes down: just make your your beloved isn’t scared of heights.

Cost: Around €12 per person

3. Under the sea

Dive 100 feet under the sea and propose among an ocean wonderland of exotic fish, sharks, coral reefs and turtles – without getting wet at all. A proposal at sea in a special submarine would be the perfect conclusion to a romantic holiday in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Submarine tours are available for up to 64 people; if you want something more exclusive for your proposal, you’ll need to hire a private craft.

Cost: $99 per person

4. In an igloo

The Icehotel is a tourist trap made entirely from ice and snow. Visitors to the Arctic Circle stay at the Icehotel to experience the Northern Lights and the extreme conditions; the temperature inside the hotel never rises above −5C, but the entire structure has to be rebuilt every year because the roof melts through the summer months.

Guests are packed off to their Art Suite, Ice Room or Snow Room to enjoy the evening on beds made from snow and covered with reindeer skins. You might not be able to snuggle up close in a sleeping bag, but a proposal under the stars is likely to be unforgettable.

Cost: from 3200 SEK

5. In space

Sir Richard Branson’s first tourist spaceport is now complete, and space tourism is about to become a reality – for the well-off, at least. Designed by Foster and Partners, the New Mexico hub is one airport hub that almost certainly won’t have a branch of the Sock Shop or a WH Smith.

OK, space flights aren’t available just yet, but if you’ve met the partner of your dreams and have $400,000 to spare, it might be worth putting a deposit down now to claim a unique world first: a marriage proposal outside Earth’s atmosphere.

Cost: $200,000 per person

With Valentines Day approaching fast, romantic minded people are turning their minds to customised presents for a present that will be treasured and kept.

A personalised gift is one way to get into the good books of the one you love so here’s some suggestions for you this Valentine’s Day…

Apple continues to go from strength to strength with its fantastic touch devices and the “app store” eco system that they have thrown up. If your better half is a bit geeky but doesn’t yet have one, why not treat them to either an iPod, an iPhone or an iPad – all of which can be personalised with a lasered message before Apple sends them out. Click here for Personalised iPods and iPads.

Champagne is the indulgent bottle of fizz that everybody likes to receive and there’s a range of customised champagne bottle options to suit your budget.

If your fella is footie mad (or your girlfriend, of course), how about their team’s kit customised with a name emblazoned on the back. This soccer-themed idea will hit the back of the net on the big day and maybe help you score too? (Apologies, but sometimes football punnage is just too tempting).

There’s more personalised gift ideas in the side bar of this site but don’t leave it too late as customised presents usually take a bit longer to order than standard off the shelf gifts.

Chocolate is the perennial favourite gift which goes down a treat whether it be at Christmas, birthdays, Easter or any other occasion. I really like these personalised chocolate bars which allow you to put the name of a loved one across the outer wrapping of a chocolate bar. The bars are 100g bars of milk chocolate covered in foil and with a paper wrap – which is a classic look which always reminds me of the Willy Wonka movie.

There’s loads of outer layer designs waiting for you to customise with the addition of a message or friend’s name. There’s generic gift ones, ones perfect for him or for her, funky ones and some really romantic ones. Here’s a selection of some of the best but click here to see the full selection.
