During the “checkout” process, you will be able to enter two lines of text (or one, depending on model) which will be engraved by laser onto the back of the iPod. If you’re giving someone an iPod as a gift, that’s the perfect way to add a little something special. Engraving is free of charge.

Well, Apple say themselves on the website that could take 5-7 days, so you should allow that much time. BUT, my personal experience is that I ordered a personalised iPod myself at 9.30 on a Wednesday and it was delivered by lunchtime the next day which I think is an extraordinarily good service.
